How to Choose a Concrete Curbing Company.

When choosing a company to beautify the curb appeal of your home, there are many factors to consider.  Keep in mind, when purchasing concrete curbing, you are purchasing a service, not a product.  You cannot return it if you are not pleased. Knowing HOW to choose a good concrete curbing company will make all the difference in your experience and happiness with your new curbing.

Is concrete curbing worth it?

Assessing the value of your concrete curbing investment is easiest when you consider the alternative options for curbing.  Initially, other options for landscape curbing include metal, plastic or brick.  When exposed to changing temperatures and lawn implements, plastic curbing can easily crack, break and be destroyed.  Metal edging can rust and look unsightly in your yard.  Brick edging eventually deteriorates but leaves gaps for invasive plants to make their way into your landscape design.  Concrete curbing for your landscape eliminates these issues and lasts for a lifetime.

Concrete curbing’s value extends beyond its beauty and functionality.

How affordable is concrete curbing?

It’s obvious that concrete curbing can increase your home’s value and protect your landscape from erosion and invasive grass, but did you know that it is also affordable?  Concrete curbing costs less than you think and its overall value extends beyond its beauty and functionality.

Is concrete curbing durable?

In looking at other curbing options such as brick work, plastic or metal edging, while initially, they may look more economically priced, in the long run, concrete curbing is sustainable and lower priced in comparison.  Plastic edging can crack and shift as the ground moves.  Brick work can allow gaps for invasive plant life and can look uneven after years of settling.  Replacing either of these options can be required as often as every 3-5 years.  This can increase the cost, over a lifetime, significantly.

Concrete curbing is a long-term investment for protection and beautification of your home.

What is the installation process?

Installation of landscape edging is a simple and easy process.  It is less messy and destructive than you would think.  When hiring a company, be sure that they will ensure no damage to your yard from heavy machinery.  The majority of projects will be completed in 1-3 days (depending on conditions) and should be left with a neatly cleaned yard afterward.  Most of the time, the homeowner need not even be home when the installation is taking place.  Reliable companies will ensure these steps happen efficiently.

Questions to ask companies:

  • Do you have a portfolio of work?
  • How long will the curbing last without fading shifting or breaking?
  • Do you have references?
  • Can children, pets or vehicles damage the concrete curbing?
  • Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the installation of my curbing?
  • What kind of guarantees or warranties do you provide?
  • Will the process of creating the curbing damage my landscaping or lawn?
  • What is the clean-up process?
  • How will waste be handled?

I really like how you talked about a few questions to ask curbing companies in your article. My wife and I want to get some curbing done around our flowerbeds in our yard, and I think that asking for a portfolio of work from the curbing company is a great way for us to know how our yard will look. I’m going to have to share this with my wife, and make sure we see some of the past work of the curbing companies we’re looking to hire!
